Fundraising

The South Manchester Down's Syndrome Support Group is a member led charity and we do not receive any statutory funding from the government. Our much needed services continue thanks to the generosity or our members and funders.

Current funders that we are lucky enough to be supported by:

The National Lottery Community Fund
Forever Manchester

Our members have been taking part in incredible fundraising activities, you can read about them below and donate to support them on our Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/smanchesterdownsyndromesupport

HCB Solicitors

Our lovely members Lauren and David Livesey brought HCB solicitors into our lives or rather their daughter Henri did. Getting to know the group through Henri and the family, the solicitors have match funded, provided the selection boxes for the last two Christmas parties, and have even volunteered! Their generosity has blown us away and we'd like to say a huge personal thank you to James Paradeda.

Lauren and David are a couple of many talents and are involved in their local community theatres for amateur dramatics, Pados Studio. For the last two years they have raised funds at the annual Pantomime that they have had roles in – this year it raised £1262.36. It was the best panto we have ever seen, and I urge you all to go this year. Thank you, Lauren and David, for connecting us, for talking about the charity and for co-ordinating all the donations.

Amy and Sean walked the Yorkshire 3 peaks!

Amy and Sean, Faelans’s parents, came up with the idea of doing the three peaks challenge with their friends. Whilst we were eating sausage rolls at a Chatterbox they were tirelessly hiking and raised £2,551.25. What an achievement, thank you guys!

Holly's walking challenge

Holly England, sister to our member James, took up a walking challenge for her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award, raising £2,400 for SMDSSG! James joined her for some of the walks too and they did incredibly well. Holly is hoping to do more of the same for her Silver Award and we wish her all the best whilst thanking her for her amazing efforts so far!

Elizabeth run's Manchester 10k!

Elizabeth Brittain, mum to Thomas decided to take up running for SMDSSG. Legend! Liz did the Manchester 10k and while she was putting her legs to work, her husband Paul set us up for match funding through his work. Together they raised over £4,000. Phenomenal work guys and we can’t thank you enough.

The Brittain family then introduced the lovely Jasmine to us. Jasmine supports Thomas in his nursery and did an inflatable course in aid of SMDSSG raising £700. Thank you, Jasmine, you are a superstar.

Our CEO Esther faced her fears to raise money for SMDSSG!

"So, I only went and did it! I conquered my fears by doing the world's fastest Zip Wire to raise much needed funds for the group. I have smashed the £500 and raised £660! It was so hard, I cried on the practice run but the thought of the group got me down!

My challenge is now to you all - is there a fundraiser you would like to do to support the group? If there is please get in touch, we can help you arrange it and help with fundraising ideas too!"

What Can You Do?

  • Do you have a skill that would be useful to the group?
  • Do a car boot sale
  • Bake cakes and sell them at your school or work
  • Do a sponsored event
  • Have a wear green day at work or school
  • Sell some unwanted items on e-bay
  • Can you spare a couple of hours every month to do some of the jobs that keep the group running?
  • Can you volunteer to help set up or tidy up at a Chatterbox Club?

We are always looking for help from parents, friends or relatives. If you feel you could spare some time to help on the committee, help organise an event or fundraise then please let us know. Email contact@dsmanchester.org.uk

When you're doing your shopping you could also be helping us raise money!
